Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers under graduate course in Mechanical Engineering. Affiliated to Kerala University, the degree programme offered here is much sought after by students from all over Kerala. Headed by a team of knowledgeable and highly qualified teachers and supporting staff, the department is well-equipped with all the facilities required in a top notch institution such as large classrooms, laboratories, workshops, CAD labs etc. The total intake of students is 60 per year and we are planning to offer Post Graduate Course in Mechanical Engineering in the next academic year.

As the branch of Engineering dealing with analysis, design, manufacturing, thermal and fluids engineering and maintenance of mechanical systems, mechanical engineers are in great demand these days. A degree in Mechanical Engineering opens up an entire array of job opportunities for its students in space and research organizations, automobile, steel plants, refineries, railways, manufacturing plants, air conditioning and refrigeration industry and so on. The B.Tech programme has been formulated to provide exhaustive and detailed study of subject with rigorous training in the labs and workshops making them proficient in designing and operating mechanical devices. They are also given encouragement to think out-of-the box to produce novel products in technology.

Course offered

B Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Full time Graduate course) affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological university

Vision

To be the institution of choice for mechanical engineering education, encompassing technical leadership, innovation, and service.

Mission

To prepare students to be leaders in mechanical engineering careers, capable of producing innovative solutions.

• Mechanical engineers can work in such desperate industries like automotive, aerospace and biotechnology. This not only allows you a huge choice of employment options upon graduation, but it also gives you the ability to shift jobs easily and even switch industries.

• Due to the vast professional options, you can pursue as a mechanical engineer, employability is extremely high even when the unemployment in the society surges at high rates.

• Mechanical engineering can be an exciting, stimulating and rewarding career. You will be on the cutting edge of innovation, in most cases and most of your days will be filled with engaging work and extremely intelligent co-workers.

• Becoming a mechanical engineer could take you to some interesting places – oil rigs, deserts, the Antarctic, the deep sea.Mechanical engineering qualifications and experience are like having a passport to work in many different industries and countries.

Industry 4.0 refers to a new phase in the Industrial Revolution that focuses heavily on interconnectivity, automation, machine learning, and real-time data. Industry 4.0, also sometimes referred to as industrial internet of things (IoT) or smart manufacturing, marries physical production and operations with smart digital technology, machine learning, and big data to create a more holistic and better connected ecosystem for companies that focus on manufacturing and supply chain management. While every company and organization operating today is different, they all face a common challenge – availability of industrially potential graduates to accomplish their targets.

The way Industrial Revolution 4.0 is transforming the world, technologies like the internet of things (IoT), Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are impacting major industries, and in turn, jobs. It can be considered similar to the replacement of manual jobs by machine-handled tasks that occurred as a revolution in the 21st Century. This implies that Industry 4.0 will not only affect industries but consequently will transform the way jobs and education will be seen. This will result in the revolution of education 4.0.

Education 4.0 will enable learning anytime, anywhere as the e-learning tools and applications will provide opportunities for remote, self-paced learning. The role of classrooms will change wherein theoretical knowledge will be imparted outside the classroom while practical or experiential knowledge will be imparted face-to-face.

Education 4.0 will also enable personalised learning for students depending on their capabilities. This means that above average students will be challenged with tasks that are difficult as compared to students who are below average. This implies that there will be individual learning processes for each student. It will surely have a positive impact as it will enable students to learn at their pace. This will result in a better understanding of the concepts and an overall better result. It will also help teachers to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student individually and guide them accordingly.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of UKFCET was started in the year 2010. It offers under graduate course in Mechanical Engineering. Affiliated to Kerala Technological University, the degree program offered here is much sought after by students from all over Kerala. Headed by a team of knowledgeable and highly erudite teachers and supporting staff, the department is well-equipped with all the facilities required in an A class institution such as large classrooms, laboratories, workshops, CAD labs etc. The total intake of students is 120 per year. The B.Tech program has been formulated to provide exhaustive and detailed study of subject with rigorous training in the labs and workshops ,making them proficient in designing and operating mechanical devices. They are also given encouragement to think out-of-the box to produce novel products in technology.

Our teaching methodology is far different from the traditional class room teaching concept. Apart from the curriculum we train our students to be industry ready through frequent add-on courses, field visits and providing them opportunity to compete with engineering graduates all over the country through national and state level technical competitions. The UKF garage was opened with this concept. It gives a space for students to experiment their talents and ideas on practical grounds. The GO-Kart, Quad bike were a few outputs from UKF garage. Even the covid lockdown made us go through many innovative teaching methodologies like the live and flip classrooms to make sure that our students get the best that any engineering college can provide.

Pursuing Mechanical Engineering in UKF not only makes a student to learn the theoretical concepts but it will transform him into an industry ready graduate who can easily cop up with the requirements of the industry.
